The Oyo State Government has categorically denied claims that it plans to return some missionary schools to their original owners.

Disclosing this, the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abdulrahman Abduraheem, who debunked the story making round that Oyo was about to return the schools to the owners, clarified the government’s position.

He said, “The government does not have such intention and there was nowhere His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde made that statement.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the governor was confronted about a possible return of the Loyola College, Ibadan to the Old Students Association and he asked the association to direct its request to the Ministry of Education for necessary engagement.”

Abduraheem said the government had drawn up a Memorandum of Understanding to guide the planned takeover of Government College, Ibadan (GCI), by the incorporated trustees of the GCI comprising old students association and government nominee.

He added that the new regime of control at the college was meant to serve as a litmus test for the template on the matter.
