Unchained Vibes Africa and Lakreem Entertainment have announced that they will host a colloquium in honour of veteran Nigerian artiste, Eedris Abdulkareem, who recently disclosed his health challenge.
The ace singer and rapper had recently announced that he was diagnosed with kidney failure, news that broke the hearts of his fans home and abroad.
However, the team, led by UVA and Lakreem Entertainment urged Nigerians to support the veteran now that he is at his lowest.
The event, tagged “Freedom Vibes 6.0 – Eedris Abdulkareem Colloquium”, is slated for Saturday, 13th August 2022 at the Freedom Park, Lagos Island.
Announcing this on Wednesday, the Executive Producer, UVA, Ayodele Ganiu at a press conference that was held in Lagos, emphasised the need to rally round Abdulkareem, saying that he paved the way for other Nigerian artistes in the global space.
Highlighting the objectives of the colloquium, Ganiu said it will sensitise the general public on the role of artists in a democracy and mobilise the artistic community to become more active in civic engagements.
He said: “The event will sensitise the public on how music can effectively carry critical advocacy messages and raise awareness about social and political issues in a way that traditional advocacy cannot.
“Using an audiovisual presentation dissecting the music of Eedris Abdulkareem, the colloquium will showcase the common presence of music in people’s lives and its power to condense feelings and ideas into small units of time which can easily be accessible to an average person.”
Representing Lakreem Entertainment, Myke Pam, urged the big wigs in the entertainment industry to come out on Saturday to show support but, however, clarified that Abdulkareem will never go about “cap-in-hand” to seek financial aid.
He revealed that the activist’s wife is his donor, while also urging his fans to continue to show them love in this trying time.
The colloquium will be graced by industry key players like Dr Kenny Ogungbe and Dede Mabiaku who are expected to reflect on Abdulkareem’s artistic journey and his activism respectively.
