Two Dead, Others Injured in Multiple Autocrash in Lagos

Name

Two persons, Friday, died in the wee hours of the day after vehicles had a head on collision at Odo Iya Alaro on the bridge linking Maryland and Ojota on Ikorodu road in Lagos State.

The incident, which occurred at about 02.15am, involved two commercial buses (danfos) coming from Mile 12 conveying six women, a gasoline tanker, a Toyota Camry car whose only occupant escaped unhurt, and a tipper loaded with sharp sand.

The tipper, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said, hit the Toyota Camry from the rear and the sand spilled on the car. Two passengers including a female were said to have died on the spot.

The Lagos Territorial Office Coordinator, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the accident. “There is an empty tanker with registration number FKJ-506XM, an articulated flatbed truck laden with metal coils, a grey colored Toyota Camry with registration number ABC-261AJ (Abuja), a tipper with registration number T-12015LA laden with 30 tons sharp sand and two commercial buses (danfo).”

“SHEMU has taken one of the deceased to the morgue, the second body simply identified as Blessing has her family members on ground to take the body away,” says Farinloye.

He explained further that  the tipper truck lost control while on high speed and rammed into the vehicles, thereby, resulting in the multiple accident.

“Unfortunately,” Farinloye affirmed, the two adults were confirmed dead at the scene. “The male adult was handed over to SEHMU at the scene while the female was taken by her immediate family.”

The coordinator said several persons were also injured and taken to nearby hospitals. This was possible with the help of first responders including FRSC Ambulance LASAMBUS, LASEMA, NEMA, LASTMA, FRSC, and the Nigeria Police.
