
The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, was sworn in as the acting president of the country on Friday.
He replaced President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who fled to Singapore following months of protest against him and the recent evading of the presidential villa.
In a brief statement, his office disclosed that the 73-year-old leader took his oath of office before Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.
Meanwhile, the country’s parliament on Friday announced that they would vote in a new president next Wednesday.
Making this known, the Office of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana said nominations for the replacement of Rajapaksa will be received on Tuesday and MPs are due to vote the following day.
