Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, wife of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government to end the ongoing strike action for the sake of the students.
The First Lady warned that it could lead the students to building negative traits due to idleness.
Sanwo-Olu, who spoke on Wednesday at a special Eid-El-Fitr celebration at the Lagos House in Alausa area of Ikeja Lagos, described the strike as a ticking time bomb.
The Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) also embarked on strike in February 2022 over the failure of the Federal Government to address their concerns.
Sanwo-Olu said: “Our children need to go back to school. It is a ticking time bomb when they sit at home doing nothing.
“The devil will find work for the idle hands. Our children, those in the universities, sitting at home for two months is not a plus for us. So anytime we have the opportunity, as parents, especially mothers, we should continue speaking up.”
She also hinted that the federal universities are shut down as a result of the ASUU strike. “We plead and plead that God will help us to resolve this issue,” adding that :I don’t feel comfortable that the students are at home and whatever it takes, all hands must be on deck to ensure that they go back to school.”
