…Nigerian based in Ukraine rejects evacuation offer
The Second batch of 181 Nigerian evacuees, Friday, arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
They returned aboard Air Peace from Poland Friday night following the Russian invasion in Ukraine.
While a yet-to-be confirmed number of Nigrrians are displaced, over 5,000 of them – including students – were said to be caught up in the web of the conflict.
Many of them have reportedly fled to neighbouring countries including Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Belarus.
However, some Nigerians have resolved to stay back as refugees despite the war.
32 years old indigene of Anambra State, Nnamdi Okafor, made this known in an interview when asked why he wasn’t grabbing the Federal Government’s evacuation flight.
“What am I coming to Nigeria to do? Has anything changed in my country? For now I am still in Ukraine. I was living in the capital, Kyiv. But I’ve moved to one of the border towns which is relatively safe currently,” he added.
Meanwhile, earlier on Friday, the first batch of 416 Nigerians were repatriated to the country from Romania aboard Max Air.
According to the federal government, the third batch is expected to arrive soon.
