Meta Platforms Inc. CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has hinted to the staff of possible retrenchment in the company due to recent downturns in the economy.
This is as he tasked the staff to expect to do more with fewer resources, emphasising that their performances would be intensely graded.
Zuckerberg made this known to the global company’s 77,800 staff via an internal video conference.
“I think some of you might decide that this place isn’t for you, and that self-selection is OK with me. Realistically, there are probably a bunch of people at the company who shouldn’t be here.”
In another memo, the Meta Chief Product Officer, Chris Cox admitted that Meta faces “serious times” and economic “headwinds are fierce”.
The most obvious manifestation, according to the Times, would be fewer hires — Facebook’s parent company now intends to add 6,000 to 7,000 engineers this year, down from an initial goal of 10,000.
Meanwhile, Twitter Inc. TWTR and Intel Corp. among others have announced hiring freezes.
