At least six people, Monday, were reportedly killed and two dozen others wounded in a mass shooting at an Independence Day parade along Central Avenue in Chicago US.
According to authorities, there is an extensive manhunt for the gunman, who fired on unsuspecting attendees from a rooftop, authorities said.
The shooting in Highland Park, about 25 miles north of Chicago, began shortly after 10am CT as parade-goers enjoyed a sunny Fourth of July parade along Central Avenue.
Highland Park Police, Lou Jogmen, on Monday evening was said to have identified 22-year-old Robert Crimo III as a person of interest in connection with the shooting. Hence, he was named a suspect.
Although authorities did not give reasons it labelled Crimo a person of interest according to CNN, they said he was armed and dangerous.
In the description, the FBI noted that Crimo is 5-foot-11, 120 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
“Crimo III has the following tattoos: four tally marks with a line through them on his right cheek, red roses and green leaves on his neck, and cursive script above his left eyebrow,” the FBI website says.
He is believed to be driving a 2010 silver Honda Fit with Illinois license plate DM80653.
Officials, however, enjoined residents in the area to shelter in place.
According to Police Commander, Chris O’Neill, firearm evidence was found on the rooftop of a business near the shooting.
“The gunman used a ladder attached to the building on a wall in an alley to access the roof,” says Christopher Covelli, spokesperson for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
He further described the crime, “The gun was a high-powered rifle and the attack appeared to be random and intentional.”
