Nigeria’s Ese Brume has clinched the gold medal in the women’s long jump event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Ese, with this win, broke the Commonwealth Games record to win Team Nigeria’s 12th gold medal.
Brume put herself in a commanding position for the gold medal after her fourth attempt gave her a new Commonwealth Games record of 6.99m.
The 26-year-old returned to seal a 7.00m leap to beat the 6.97m Games record held by Australia’s Bronwyn Thompson.
The Nigerian fended off competition from Australia’s Brooke Buschkuehl and Deborah Acquah from Ghana, who both finished in second and third positions with leaps of 6.95m and 6.94m respectively.
At the end of Day 10, team Nigeria emerged in seventh on the medals table with 12 gold, nine silver and 14 bronze medals.
