Name

The National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees, the National Union of Electricity Employees, the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals and the Air Transport Employees (NUATE) have resolved to join the nationwide protest of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) taking place today and tomorrow in solidarity with the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The protest on Tuesday disrupted vehicular movements towards the protest ground which is ongoing under the bridge axis in Ikeja, Lagos State.

The groups that formed the protest include Labour members, other unions and civil society groups.

There is a heavy presence of security operatives including police and others at the venue to prevent breaches or attacks on the protesters by thugs.

ASUU had shut all public universities and commenced its ongoing strike on February 14, after the FG failed to meet some of its demands

The demands are the release of revitalisation funds for universities, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, release of earned allowances for university lecturers, and deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution platform for the payment of salaries and allowances of university lecturers.
