In our quest for excellence as Champions, it is crucial we don’t miss an opportunity to gain insights from the news making the rounds.
It is said that “We don’t see things as they are; we see things as we are.”
When you are EMPOWERED you are emancipated from BIAS and you can deal with issues head-on but when you are RADICALIZED you degenerate into UNCONSCIOUS BIAS.
UNCONSCIOUS BIAS is further complicated when we find comradeship in others who hear what we want to hear. Comradeship leads to psychological endorsement giving the illusion that we are right and the other party is wrong.
EMPOWERMENT is a process of self assessment, self realization and self discipline but RADICALIZATION is woke and feel good.
We have control with EMPOWERMENT but we are under control in RADICALIZATION.
EMPOWERMENT keeps us disciplined to walk the walk but RADICALIZATION makes us talk the talk.
EMPOWERMENT keeps us assertive but RADICALIZATION keeps us passive, passive-aggressive or full blown aggressive.
Many times, we don’t listen, we only hear what we want to hear. We can be SILENT but it doesn’t mean we LISTEN.
We are constantly seeking those who agree with what we agree. When we find someone who doesn’t agree with us, we label them as part of the problem, distort facts and weaponize emotional blackmail to ensure we secure our position with those who agree with us.
Hardly do we subject ourselves to the discipline of MENTAL DETOX and consciousness of what we consume.
Our education, experience, (limited) exposure, expertise, anointing and socioeconomic status doesn’t really matter here. Because we unconsciously use them all to justify our “righteous behavior”.
This is why LEADERSHIP PERFORMANCE is under threat. We hardly take Personal Responsibility. We expect everyone else to act right except ourselves.
The other day, BULLYING was trending and I saw loads of BULLIES condemning BULLYING. One would have thought that they would take a break for a while but NA LIE, E NO DEY HAPPEN FOR THIS WORLD. We were CONDEMNING it on the (social) media but PRACTICING it in real life.
Whether you are for Natasha or Akpabio, you may be right. Based on the facts presented, both of them have areas they could have done better.
It is not enough to speak up or analyze or condemn or defend. That is not the most important thing.
The most important thing is for YOU & I to hold up a mirror for a self assessment of all the things we have heard during this period.
We should pay attention to whatever the mirror shows us and commit to improvement today so we can improve our PERFORMANCE.
That is EMPOWERMENT.
