Some women succeed within established systems. Others expand what those systems make possible. Mrs Elizabeth Ngozi Ebi belongs to a generation of women who have redefined the possibilities of female leadership in Nigeria’s financial services industry, and her journey embodies what it means to lead at full capacity.

Introduction

A seasoned investment banker, entrepreneur, corporate director and Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Futureview Financial Services Limited, she has built a career defined by financial acumen, institutional leadership and an enduring presence in Nigeria’s corporate landscape. Her story speaks to the power of women claiming space in complex industries, earning the confidence to lead, and building institutions that outlast individual milestones.

It also raises a central question in today’s conversation about women and leadership: what does it mean for a woman not merely to occupy a seat at the table, but to shape the decisions, institutions and opportunities that define the future? For Ebi, the answer spans more than four decades.

A pioneer in a demanding industry

Ebi is recognised as one of the first two women licensed as stockbrokers on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, now the Nigerian Exchange Group. At a time when women were underrepresented in senior financial roles, she set a visible precedent for female participation in the capital market.

She earned a first-class degree from New York University and an MBA in Finance and Investment from George Washington University. Her experience across international and Nigerian institutions, spanning corporate finance, treasury management, corporate banking, money-market operations, capital-market transactions and product development, combined technical expertise with strategic understanding.

These were roles where judgement, analytical discipline and an understanding of risk are fundamental. Her trajectory shows that leadership in finance is not about occupying senior positions, but about earning trust and consistently delivering. For women entering demanding professions, her message is clear: expertise is a source of authority, preparation strengthens confidence, and excellence opens doors that once seemed closed.

Beyond breaking the barrier: building institutions

Breaking a barrier is an achievement. Building something enduring beyond it is another level entirely.

As founder and chief executive of Futureview Group, Ebi has built a financial services business spanning investment banking, securities, and asset and portfolio management. Sustaining such an institution demands market understanding, risk discipline, strong relationships, resilience through changing economic conditions, and the willingness to own decisions whose consequences reach far beyond oneself.

Ebi represents female leadership that moves beyond representation to institution-building. The next chapter of women’s leadership in Nigeria needs more women equipped not only to participate in institutions, but to create businesses, influence markets, direct capital, shape policy and generate opportunities for others. Her journey is a compelling reference point for that ambition.

Leadership beyond the executive office

Ebi’s contribution extends to corporate governance. She served as an Independent Non-Executive Director of PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc for more than 13 years before retiring in January 2022, and has held board responsibilities with Redeemer’s University, African Missions Global and other organisations. Her public-sector service includes the Technical Committee of the National Council on Privatisation.

Board leadership demands the confidence to ask difficult questions, the discipline to weigh evidence, and the integrity to place institutional responsibility above personal convenience. For aspiring women leaders, the lesson is instructive: the goal is not merely to rise, but to develop the judgement and independence to influence how organisations are governed. A woman’s full capacity is expressed not only in how much she carries, but in the quality of decisions she helps an institution make.

The meaning of full capacity

For many women, barriers to leadership are rarely explicit. They appear as restricted access, narrow expectations, unequal standards of credibility, or pressure to stay within comfortable roles. Confidence matters, but so do competence, access, institutional culture and decision-making authority.

Ebi’s career, spanning technical expertise, entrepreneurship, executive management and governance, offers a useful lens. What does it take to enter a field where few women have gone before? How does one build credibility to influence decisions? And how can that experience light the path for others?

Full capacity is not about doing more or endlessly proving oneself. It is about having the opportunity, capability and authority to contribute meaningfully, to act in line with one’s values, and to translate experience into enduring value.

From personal achievement to generational possibility

A legacy is measured not only by positions held, but by what becomes possible for others. When women see other women leading in finance, directing companies and shaping board decisions, the boundaries of possibility shift.

Ebi’s story encourages emerging professionals to invest in competence, build financial and commercial literacy, cultivate relationships grounded in value, and prepare for responsibilities beyond their current roles. It also challenges organisations: women should not have to be exceptional merely to be considered capable of leadership. Institutions must build cultures where competence is recognised and advancement is fair.

That is how personal accomplishment acquires generational significance.

A fitting voice for the Full Capacity conversation

On Friday, 20 November 2026, at MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos, Mrs Elizabeth Ngozi Ebi will lead a panel conversation and receive a distinguished recognition at NO MORE SHRINKING® — The Full Capacity Experience.

The event goes beyond celebrating success to advance a deeper conversation about women’s potential, influence and the conditions they need to operate at full capacity. Ebi brings the perspective of a woman who has navigated financial markets, executive leadership, enterprise-building and governance, grounding the discussion in the realities of preparation, responsibility and lasting influence. Her recognition will honour a journey that has expanded the visibility of women in Nigeria’s financial services industry.

The legacy is larger than the milestone

There is a difference between being remembered for holding a position and being remembered for redefining what was possible in it. Ebi’s pioneering role in stockbroking, leadership of Futureview Group and contribution to corporate governance form a legacy rooted in excellence, institution-building and the expansion of women’s possibilities.

The question is what this legacy will inspire next. Will more women enter finance believing their ambitions are legitimate? Will more prepare for executive and board responsibility? Will organisations ensure that women’s competence translates into real authority?

Breaking barriers matters. Building institutions matters. Exercising responsible influence matters. But the most enduring measure of a pioneering woman’s legacy is whether the path becomes wider for those who follow.

Because the ultimate expression of full capacity is not simply how far a woman rises. It is what becomes possible for others because she did.
